Philosophical Design of data

There are always a reason why the data is being created, used and processed. This is what we call "datafication". Today about millions of organizations across the world uses data as source of their everyday tasks. In order to understand the misuse of the data it is important to understand the purpose of a certain datafication.

In this part of the course we elaborate and create an interactive space for the participants to understand this need of data in their respect departments. We also discuss various theories circling around the philosophy of datafication and its practicality in the real world.

Potential misuse of data

In the past decade, we have seen raising concerns about the data protection and privacy. After Snowden's revelations people are now more worried about how their data has been used and shared. Majority of the public organizations and civil rights group do not trust organizations with shallow data protection and privacy commitments. They do have a point about these commitments and companies loses their businesses with lack of trust. Furthermore, it ruins the image of their business as well.

In this part of the course we teach about the potential misuse of the data and how can an organization as a whole can save their customers from it. We will also discuss how can we develop data frameworks that can build trust within the common public.

Moving towards better ethical data management

Since it is almost impossible to work without data, we can only minimize the damage that can be caused by the misuse. Furthermore, we should be able to do damage control when the data breached or misused. There will always be some sort of tradeoffs. Which tradeoffs are important and which can be lived with? this should be answered critically by creating set of standard and frameworks that will help general public to gain trust in your business.  

In this part of the course we teach what are the industry specific data frameworks that can be used to manage the data better. This part includes developing part of the framework during the exercise. We pay attention to what the participants have learned in the past two days of the session and apply those principles to develop something that can be used practically by the organisation.
